Culture of Peace

In this section we explore the meaning and historical development of the concept of a culture of peace. This global movement gained momentum with the United Nations’ Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010). The framework created and used by the UN emphasized education, sustainable development, human rights, gender equality, and the democratic participation of all societal groups as pillars for cultivating peace.

Here, I take a unique approach that builds on the history and contributions of this global movement. My approach focuses more on how cultural elements like rituals, language, symbols, and traditions. Also, activities such as peace festivals, sports events, museums, and tourism. This section will also provide articles and resources to help you understand and transform cultural violence into peaceful practices.
